National Medical Librarians Month

This year to celebrate NMLM the librarians of the Pumerantz Library want you to be prepared for the zombie apocalypse. To help you get prepared we have the following displays and events planned. 

  • Zombie Survival Prep improvised defense weapons display – all month long, Museum
  • 10 C’s of Survival display – all month long – 2nd floor stairwell
  • On campus interlibrary loan office delivery – All month long
  • Screening of Zombieland Oct. 28 @ 6:30 pm. Please register


We will also offer the following training session


Our perennial favorite events will make a comeback
  • Fine Free Friday – Oct. 16
  • Halloween photo contest, take a picture in your Halloween costume with the library in the background and submit with the following #PumerantzHalloween on Oct. 30- 31 @pumerantzlib or Facebook
  • Halloween “trick or trick” at the library 1st & 2nd floor desks – Oct. 30-31

Presentation 2:  Mobile Apps for Medicine
Wednesday, October 16th

Mobile devices are commonplace in today’s medical practice.  They can be used at the point of care to access information on diagnosis, patient care, and pharmaceutical dosing. 
In this workshop, an online tour of the Mobile Devices research guide will be given. This tour will expose attendees to the various library resources that offer Mobile Apps and sources for software downloads.

Learn how to use the bibliographic resource EndNote in this hands-on workshop. The basic features of this program will be taught, including creating a library, and importing references.  To get the most out of this workshop, please download EndNote to your laptop before the presentation.

The library's annual Fall Book Sale begins Monday October 22. Book prices begin at $.25 and go up to $20.

·         October 22 – 26, drop a book in need of care this week for the library to repair. Please see the circulation desk for details and drop off.

·         October 26, drop off an overdue book on this day with no fines. Sorry outstanding fines do not apply.

Halloween Candy
·         October 31, stop by the library for some Halloween tricks or treats.

National Medical Librarian's Month Annual Book Sale


The Pumerantz Library is holding a used book sale through Sunday, Oct. 30. Prices range from 25 cents to $20. There will be human and veterinary medicine items for sale. Fall has arrived and Halloween is just around the corner. That must mean it's National Medical Librarians Month. This year we are offering two specialty workshops, as well as some of the things you have come to enjoy & expect during National Medical Librarians Month.

Staff, Faculty, and students, do you know that you have access to other academic library collections? This workshop will give a brief overview of our resource sharing services and introduce you to Camino, our newest service.

Pumerantz Library Used Book Sale October 25-31, 2010

The Pumerantz Library is having a book sale. The sale begins Monday, October 25th and will run until Sunday, October 31st. Prices range from .25¢ to $10. There will be human and veterinary medicine items for sale. Please contact the library at reference@westernu.edu for more information.


UPDATE - All book prices will be reduced Friday, Saturday, & Sunday. Books that were .25¢ will be .10¢; .50¢ will be .25¢… etc.

National Medical Librarian Month


October is National Medical Librarian’s Month. Come to the library and help your university librarians celebrate. We are bringing back old favorite events and workshops as well as introducing some new ones.

To start it all off on Monday, October 4th is Snapshot Day - a day in the life of your library. Come to the library and use our services and resources as you normally would. Show how much the library means to you, stop and leave your thoughts on our comment boards on the first floor.

Book Repair Day – October 19 - Leave a book in need of repair at the library. We’ll fix it and get it back to you. Please allow a few days for staff to repair the book and contact you.  

Bi-annual Library Book Sale – October 25 – 31 - Books will be replenished throughout the week so remember to stop back to see what has been added.  

Fine Free Friday – October 29 - Come in on this one day and the library will forgive a fine on a book that you currently have checked out. Sorry, we can't forgive previous or existing fines, nice try though!
