Micromedex Drug Information App


On March 31, 2014 some important cross-platform changes took place to the Micromedex Drug Information App.

Apple

If you previously downloaded the Micromedex Drug Information App, as of 3-31-14, the old app will no longer work. You will have to download the new Free Micromedex Drug Reference for Internet Subscribers, now available on the App store. There is no change in the app's features, but it now requires a download code and a quarterly update. Instructions on how to locate the code are below.

1. Delete the old app
2. Download the new app
3. Navigate to Micromedex from the library's e-resources page
4. Next click on Micromedex 2.0
5. Click on mobileMicromedex
6. Get subscription code for Apple and enter it into your device


Android 

No changes to the app.










Windows 8

Micromedex now has a app available for your device at no charge. You may locate the app from the Windows Store.

VisualDx Mobile App


VisualDx is a diagnostic clinical decision support resource that combines high-quality medical images and applicable information.  The Library's subscription to VisualDx includes remote mobile access.  VisualDx mobile is available on iPhone, iPad, and Android apps. 

To get VisualDx mobile, follow these instructions:

1.      From the VisualDx homepage, click on the “FREE APP for iPad, iPhone, and Android” link.

2.      Follow the on-screen instructions to receive a username and password via-email

3.      Once you have a username and password, you can download the free VisualDx Mobile app from the iTunes store or Google Play.

4. Launch the VisualDx app from your device, and sign in using your VisualDx username and password.

VisualDx Enhancements

Starting today; March 1, 2011, VisualDx is releasing some new enhancements, a new app, more images, an enhanced search feature, and a team up with another database.

Android users rejoice, VisualDx has finally created an app for the Android platform. You can now enjoy the power of ViusalDx on your Droids, & G2's! Currently enrolled students, faculty and staff may sign up for VisualDx for Android here and click on "Get VisualDx mobile free".

Keyword enhanced search VisualDX has "expanded the Look up a Diagnosis search to include more general key terms we have found users to be entering frequently." You can now search more general terms and retrieve reliable results.

VisualDx and Up To Date have teamed up to offer enhanced services. Now when you perform a search in Up To Date, if the topic you look up has a correlation to topics or images covered in VisualDx you will be provided with an icon to view the diagnosis, treatment options, and images in VisualDx. Genome Workbench

Genome Workbench is a free product offered by National Center for Biotechnology Information (NCBI) that is an integrated desktop application for viewing and analyzing sequence data.

Genome Workbench allows you to view data in publicly available sequence databases at NCBI, and mix this data with your own private data. Workbench can display sequence data in many ways, including graphical sequence views, various alignment views, phylogenetic tree views, and tabular views of data. It can also align your private data to data in public databases, display your data in the context of public data, and retrieve BLAST results.

You may download Genome Workbench from the Workbench download page. NCBI also provides tutorials and FAQ pages about workbench.

VisualDx

The Pumerantz Library now has a subscription to the differential diagnosis generator VisualDx. Description from the VisualDx Website:

"VisualDx is a diagnostic decision support system designed by clinicians to aid medical professionals in the diagnosis of visually identifiable diseases. It provides instant access to specialist knowledge at the point of care, merging medical images with concise clinical text. As the clinician enters actual patient findings, VisualDx creates a visual differential diagnosis. The software includes more than 18,000 images representing over 1,000 visually identifiable diseases, drug reactions, and infections. VisualDx is a multi-use tool designed for day-to-day clinical diagnosis, emergency preparedness, and medical education."

Along with the database subscription the WesternU Community has access to the VisualDx iPhone/iTouch application. You may request the application by clicking on the "Get VisualDx free for your iPhone" link located on the database homepage.
