Early closure

Please note that the Harriet K. & Philip Pumerantz Library will be closing at 5 pm on December 16, 2011.

Winter Break

The Harriet K. & Philip Pumerantz Library would like to remind you that the library will be closed from December 17, 2011 through January 1, 2012 for Winter Break.

During the Winter Break closure, interlibrary loan/document delivery and book check out will not be available. You may still access any of the library's electronic resources remotely such as e-books, e-journals, & research resources. Remember, in order to access the e-resources remotely you will need to use your email username & password. The reference department will review questions emailed during the break and will respond to any that are deemed an emergency.

We will resume full operation on January 2nd at 7 am.

Thanksgiving Closure

The Harriet K. & Philip Pumerantz Library will be closed on Thursday, November 24th through Sunday, November 27th for the Thanksgiving holiday weekend. All online services will be available; however Interlibrary Loan requests will not be filled during the holiday weekend. Interlibrary Loan staff will be available to respond to your requests on Monday, November 28th.

National Medical Librarian's Month Annual Book Sale


The Pumerantz Library is holding a used book sale through Sunday, Oct. 30. Prices range from 25 cents to $20. There will be human and veterinary medicine items for sale. National Medical Librarians Month

Fall has arrived and Halloween is just around the corner. That must mean it's National Medical Librarians Month. This year we are offering two specialty workshops, as well as some of the things you have come to enjoy & expect during National Medical Librarians Month.

Micromedex Off Campus Access

When you need clinical information to make a treatment decision, you need the right information and you need it right away. The Harriet K. & Philip Pumerantz Library is here to support that need by providing access to Micromedex 2.0. We are now able to provide remote access to this resource in addition to on-campus access.


Micromedex delivers smart search functionality and a streamlined design to help you find the evidence-based drug information and clinical answers you need. Micromedex includes all the unbiased, referenced information about drugs, toxicology, diseases, acute care, and alternative medicine you need to make informed clinical diagnosis and treatment decisions. Micromedex now includes Red Book, which has moved to online format only and will no longer be available in print. Red Book provides access to drug pricing and descriptive information for more than 200,000 active and deactivated FDA-approved prescription and over-the-counter medications, nutraceuticals, bulk chemicals, and some medical devices and supplies.

The library’s Interlibrary Loan and Document Delivery Services will be unavailable on Wednesday, October 5th from 5:30am to 1:00pm while we perform a software upgrade. During this time you will not be able to access the library’s ILLiad request form at https://illiad.westernu.edu/illiad/logon.html .
