The International Association of Contact Lens Educators (IACLE) materials have been provided free of charge to the library. The major resource available from the IACLE is the:

Contact Lens Course - a comprehensive program providing the educator with the necessary materials needed in order to teach a high quality contact lens course.

All IACLE resources may be checked out by currently enrolled students and faculty of Western University and may be used in-house by card carrying members of the IACLE.

Library SMS/text and chat service

The Pumerantz Library has long offered chat service to the WesternU Community. Now we are expanding and enhancing this service with SMS/text service.

Send your SMS/text question to 909-764-8156. Please allow 2-3 minutes for a librarian response.

The Pumerantz Library does not charge for this service. However, cell phone providers generally charge customers for sending and/or receiving text messages. Check with your cell phone provider for more information on text messaging charges.

PubMed Clinical Queries Redesign Preview

The PubMed Clinical Queries page will soon be redesigned to filter one search by three clinical research areas: Clinical Study Categories, Systematic Reviews, and Medical Genetics.

The Clinical Queries page has been reconfigured with columns to preview the first five citations of the results for the three research areas. The radio buttons for Clinical Study Categories and the checkboxes for Medical Genetics have been replaced with pull-down menus. While previewing results, you may make alternate menu selections for the Clinical Study Categories and Medical Genetics to modify those results of your search. Citations display in "Recently Added" order and link to the Abstract format in PubMed. "See all" links to the complete results.

Descriptions of the research areas appear under each column.

It provides instant access to specialist knowledge at the point of care, merging medical images with concise clinical text. As the clinician enters actual patient findings, VisualDx creates a visual differential diagnosis. The software includes more than 18,000 images representing over 1,000 visually identifiable diseases, drug reactions, and infections. VisualDx is a multi-use tool designed for day-to-day clinical diagnosis, emergency preparedness, and medical education."
